March is National Nutrition Month and as a dietitian that is something I celebrate every year. I am a member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics which is a national organization and then they have smaller chapters in each state including the Suncoast Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (SAND). 

One of SAND's National Nutrition Month events this year was a farm tour of Fat Beet Farm.

I learned a lot from Aquaponics (using nitrogen from tilapia waste to fertilize the lettuce in the greenhouse hydroponic system) to Biodigester & Fertigation (food scraps ground up with water, pumped to tanks, and used as fertilizer through drip system). I fed the chickens, ducks, and goats and got to taste freshly picked produce like microgreens, kale, edible flowers, and more.

Another fun way to get outside with other dietitians, dietetic students, and their friends & family to network and socialize.
